2021 Ed Van Tine Memorial Lacrosse Tournament Rules

Each Team is guaranteed 3 games.

Teams 1 – 6  are Festival Style.

Modified, JV and Varsity levels are Champion Style with T-Shirts awarded to the top team in each level.

Length of Games:  Each game will consist of two twenty-minute running clock halves with a three-minute halftime.  One-minute time out allowed per half.  The officials will keep the game time, penalty times and the score.  Coaches are asked to assist with the score keeping.  In the event of a tie for any Modified, JV, or Varsity pre-championship (pool) game, Braveheart will be used to determine the winner.

Format: Grade K through Grade 6:  No Championship Game

  • Field Size:  40 yd x 80 yd (approx)

  • Players:  8 on field (2-3-2 + Goalie)

  • No Long poles allowed for 1/2 team.  Long poles can be used for 3/4 and 5/6 teams.

  • No over the head checks, no body checks and no one handed checks.

  • All penalties will result in a fast break for the other team.

  • No ten second clock.

  • Last two minutes of the game, the team with the lead must advance ball into the offensive end of the field with time to be determined by the official.

Format: Modified, JV and Varsity 

  • Field Size:  Regulation Size

  • Players:  10 on field (3-3-3 + Goalie)

  • No body checks and no one handed checks. Incidental body contact when playing the ball will be allowed.

    ** For Varsity Team ONLY:  One handed checks will be allowed.

  • Technical penalties will be one minute in length.  Personal penalties will be two minutes in length.

  • No ten second clock.

  • Last two minutes of the game, the team with the lead must advance ball into the offensive end of the field with time to be determined by the official.

  • New York State High School Rules apply except as specified.

  Championship Game:   The two teams from each level with best record will play in the final Championship game.  If more than two teams have the same record, the following will determine the playoff teams:  #1:  Head to Head wins, #2: Goals allowed,#3: Goals Scored and #4: 20 minute special playoff game- rules above apply.  If the Championship game is tied at the end of regulation time, Braveheart will be used to determine the winner.

*** Due to odd numbers of teams, some teams may play 4 games.  Only the first 3 games count in standings***

Score Differential:  For Grades K through 6:  If a team has a six goal lead, the loosing team will start with possession at midfield.  This does NOT apply to Modified, JV and Varsity.

Braveheart:  One goalie and one player from each team will face off in a sudden death victory.  The goalie may not cross the midfield.  First team to score wins. 

**Players must wear mouth pieces/guards

** NOSCAE approved helmets are required for all age groups – NO HOCKEY HELMETS or Box lacrosse helmets*

** ANY FIGHTING WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM THE TOURNAMENT**
