Joe Nardella Faceoff Clinic

Joe Nardella Faceoff Development Day

Wednesday December 27, 2017 Sahlens Sports Park - Elma, NY

Development Days are exactly what they sound like. A day focused on the students overall Faceoff Development. Coach Joe Nardella will strive to provide our students with the most complete faceoff training program in lacrosse.

Advanced Faceoff Clinic Grade Levels: 7th Grade – 12th Grade

Length:  2.5 hours
Cost:  $60.00
Limit: 40 Athletes
Time: 12:00pm – 2:30pm

Clinic will include:

Warm-up that emphasizes the importance of hand speed/coordination and antagonistic stretching.

Fundamental and technical reinforcement rooted in clamping the ball properly. Given various students success with different clamping patterns, Joe will teach our students how to clamp while keeping both hands low and well as lifting our left hand up for a mid-pinch or high-pinch.

Advanced moves and counters. Joe believes in teaching students the lost art of moves that were more popular in the past (ie: Jams, laser, rake) because when taught and executed properly, they are quite successful. Even students who are confident and comfortable in their primary move, benefit from learning secondary moves as it promotes their understanding for what a potential opponent may throw at them.

Proper footwork, and body positioning. These aspects of the faceoff are often overlooked but are arguably as important as the basics. More often than not, the majority of faceoffs in a game are not “clean” wins. Forcing faceoff students to rotate and try to win the ball in a tie-up or “secondary faceoff”.   Joe will teach, stress, and practice how to properly rotate around the ball to put students in the best possible position to win that secondary faceoff regardless of their reaction time.

All drilling will be competition based and take place in small groups (sorted by age and ability).

Situational IQ and Wing Play. Although difficult to replicate, many of the common in game situations our students will see can be understood through basic diagrams and discussion.

Development Days conclude with our signature double-elimination tournament.

Coaches: Coaches are always welcome to attend the sessions free of charge. Coaches may also take notes, video, etc. in an effort to further Coach their faceoff students.

About Joe:
Joe Nardella was announced as an assistant coach for Harvard men's lacrosse on Sept. 14, 2015 and completed his second season on head coach Chris Wojcik's '96 staff in 2017. In Nardella's first season on the sideline Harvard reached the title game of the Ivy League Tournament after knocking off top-seeded and second-ranked Brown in the semifinal, 13-12. That victory was one of three for the Crimson over a nationally ranked opponent, with Harvard also defeating then No. 4 Duke, 14-9, and then No. 20 Villanova, 13-12. The win over the Wildcats came in the season opener in overtime as the Crimson became just the second team in NCAA history to win three-consecutive games in overtime. At the conclusion of the year Bobby Duvnjak (third team), Devin Dwyer (third team), and Joe Lang (honorable mention) were named to the USILA All-America teams, with a total of six individuals garnering All-Ivy League honors. One of the top faceoff specialists in the nation, Nardella was drafted as a midfielder by the Boston Cannons in the fifth round, 36th overall, of the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Draft. He played in 18 games over his first two seasons and starts on the 2017 squad.   As a senior at Rutgers, Nardella earned All-America third team and Scholar All-America honors. Nardella went 223-of-333 (.670), ranking third in the nation, at the faceoff X and led the Scarlet Knights with 125 ground balls. In addition to being named first team All-Big Ten, Nardella was also named the Big Ten Specialist of the Year.  In 2014, Nardella earned second team All-BIG EAST honors, ranking fifth nationally in faceoff win percentage (.632). Nardella was also named All-BIG EAST while finishing his season ranked fourth in the nation in faceoff win percentage (.622), winning 222-of-357 in faceoff attempts.  Nardella graduated in May of 2015 from Rutgers University with a bachelor degree in economics. He is the founder of the Faceoff Factory.
